Budva and Sveti Stefan

Our last stop in snack-size Montenegro was in the walled, sea-girt city of Budva, which invites comparison with Dubrovnik - a mini version of that bigger city.

The atmospheric stari grad (old town), with marbled streets and Venetian walls rising from the clear waters below is nice to stroll around.  Much of it was ruined by two earthquakes in 1979 but it has since been completely rebuilt and now houses more shops and restaurants than residences.

At the nearby beach is a bronze statute of a ballerina. The old town provides a lovely backdrop for it.

There is an open-air theatre in the old city.

But the last glimpse of Montenegro's marvelous coast should be of Sveti Stefan.  It is an impossibly picturesque walled island village, now an exclusive luxury resort, which provides one of the foremost wow moments of this amazing Adriatic coastline.
