Arrived in Albania

Our first visit was to Kruja Castle where the Albanian national hero Gjergj Kastrior Skenderbeu is honoured.  The museum in the castle recounts the various aspects of Albanian history.

We then drove to Kukes and practically covered the road from the western side of Albania to the eastern side near the Macedonian border.  The road is a magnificent piece of engineering and the views of the mountains in the distance and the gorges we passed through were lovely.

As soon as we arrived in Kukes our rental car would not start.  We tried everything and then rang our rental company and they honoured the agreement that we could ring them from anywhere if we had problems.  They delivered another car for us from Tirana. Whilst we had a few anxious hours, we had intended an overnight stay in Kukes anyway so we were not so put out.  We are just very grateful that if we had to break down it was in a town and a convenient place to get a replacement delivered to us.  So, tomorrow we will head off to the mountains with our trip uninterrupted.
