Winding our way around in the Pyrenees

We set off from Torla, driving towards Figueras.  On the way, we crossed into Catalonia.  The winding, uphill and down dale roads took us past lots of lovely hilltop villages.

The roads curved and we went through narrow gorges and rolling hillsides and looked down on valleys below.

We arrived at La Seu D'Urgell - which on the tourist brochure claims to be "The heart of the Pyrenees" and broke our journey here.  The town has an attractive medieval centre with a Romanesque cathedral dating back to the 12th century.

Unfortunately the restaurant where we had planned to eat, which serves regional specialities, is closed as the owners are on holiday, which is a great shame.  We chose the hotel nearby so we could walk to this restaurant, so a big disappointment all around.  But on the positive side I got a wonderful haircut at the local barber's.

A couple of beautiful buildings which had to be captured on camera.

The Cathedral.

Part of the Cathedral.

Part of the Diocesan seminary.

A door dating back to the 15th century.

My delicious black ink risotto that I had for dinner.

The cityscape from a distance.

And the Cathedral too.

Andrew went and had a look at the kayaking slalom course that was built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

This is where the judges were sitting in the white tent-like structure.
