Continuing along the way in the Pyrenees

Today we drove along more vertiginous and more tightly curving roads than we did before.  Not so good for someone who is uncomfortable with heights even though the scenery was stunning.

The first interesting sight we came across was of a strange looking house with turrets that we glimpsed from the the road.  On further investigation this turned out to be the Tower of Rui.  It is at the entrance to the Molina Valley and it is the most emblematic building of the region.

This romantic looking castle with some neogothic features is in private hands but it was built in 1896 on the remnants of what were several ramparts of a defensive structure dating from the 14th century.  Some of the building it was burnt down during the Spanish Civil War and has never regained its former opulence.

I could not include this turret in the photo of the house itself.

Among the spectacular ragged hills, pine forests and plummeting dales, we stopped for morning tea at the small compact town Ribes de Freser.  Here is the usual impressive looking church in the centre of the town.

And the usual array of interesting buildings that my architecturally inclined tastes compel me to photograph.

We are staying at a little place called Castelfollit de la Roca tonight.  Below is what we look out from our bedroom window - the town teetering on the edge of the cliff.  Very picturesque and so much like this region of Spain.
