Driving to the north coast

The road from Potes was lovely.  The road curved and wound along ravines and hilltops and we went up and up -  almost to the sky.  We came across a nice little town, Riano, with a wonderful backdrop of mountains and lake.

We stopped to buy petrol and took many photos.  Here are two of them.

We finally reached the coast and the mighty Atlantic Ocean.  Lonely planet described the village of Cudillero as the most picturesque fishing village on the Asturian coast so we turned east and went there.

I am afraid, we were underwhelmed as we have seen much prettier fishing villages.  But we recorded the experience regardless.

Afterwards, we drove out to Cabo de Penas, one of the capes on the north coast.

We rather like capes and we were rewarded by finding some excellent and reasonably priced accommodation at the little village just down the road from the lighthouse.  There is a restaurant near the lighthouse, and, unusual for Spain it serves food at all hours.  We plan to dine there tonight, at a reasonable hour then come back here and relax.
