Cycling around Washington monuments

Our Florida pawnshop bicycles really came into their own in the nation's capital.  We arrived very early on Sunday morning, parked for free at the Tidal Basin and hopped on our bicycles to see as many of the monuments as we could.

The Jefferson Memorial across the Tidal Basin from where we parked the RV.

Andrew cycling along the Reflecting Pool which is on a straight the line from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol Building, with the Washington Monument in the middle.

The Lincoln Memorial.

The Capitol Building.  There was some sort of charity run when we were there and the little ants running across the road are the hundreds of  runners.

The back of the Capitol.

The Supreme Court building.  I have read so much about the workings of this institution; it is awe-inspiring to be standing in front of it.  The little tiny figure in the front is Nikki.

The White House.

One of the the Smithsonian buildings.  They comprise, within their walls, the world's largest museum and research complex.  Both Andrew and I have spent time in Washington in the past so we only visited these iconic monuments to see them from the outside.

We cycled past this beautiful and imposing building.  It is the National Museum of American History.
