Have insurance we are on our way - first stop High Sierra

The Alabama Hills, with the dramatic High Sierra backdrop have long been a favourite location for television and movie companies.  Many old westerns and commercials have been filmed in the area.  There is actually a Movie Road with authentic movie locations marked by small monuments.

Lake Diaz with High Sierra in the background.

On the road to Mt Whitney.

We camped at the Whitney Portal campground for our first night out.  Mt Whitney at 14495 ft is the highest point in the US.

Tiger parked at the campground.  Those parking spaces are quite tight at times.

On the Mt Whitney trail  Andrew did 26 kms hiking in two days there.  I did a little..........

Lone Pine Lake up the trail.

Grass Lake.

Mobius arch, one of the interesting rock formations in the Alabama Hills.   Dry, dry desert country where many of the westerns were filmed.

  1. Nice lakes! So Andrew hiked a lot and you did a little... We are wondering what the dots stand for. A little cooking perhaps?
