Wyoming
comes a very close second to Utah for having the most stunning scenery and
national parks that house these scenic treasures. The Tetons rank among the finest scenery in
America. Directly south of Yellowstone (the
entry fee covers both) the Grand Teton
NP has 12 glacier-carved summits which frame the singular Grand Teton
13,770ft. The grandeur of these peaks
with snow on them even in late July is unbelievably stunning. It vies with Yosemite NP in California as
offering the best views and photographs.
Less crowded than Yellowstone but for me the Grand Teton NP is the best.
Approaching the park.
A panorama shot of the 12 peaks.
A string
of jewel-like lakes fed by mountain streams are set tightly against the steep
foot of the mountains. If you just want
to look and admire you don’t have to go far from the road – the stunning views
of the peaks are all there at one’s fingertips.
There are easy trails in the valley which lead around lakes. For the hardier, there are trails and hikes
of all degrees of difficulty. We did a
hike up to Inspiration Point across Jenny Lake by boat. It was a hike of 500 vertical ft and we had great views
across the lake.
