Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is the Mormon equivalent of Vatican City and most of the city's sights are church related. The most famous sight is the Temple of the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Temple Square, in the middle of a 10 acre square filled with LDS buildings, flower, gardens and fountains.

Here is the main temple.  It is 210ft tall and apparently quite ethereal when lit up at night.

Inside the Tabernacle, home to the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with its massive 11,000-pipe organ.  The hall has incredible acoustics with a pin dropped in the front being able to be heard at the back almost 200ft away.  We were not unfortunately able to stay to hear the daily organ recital held at noon every day.

On leaving Salt Lake City we drove past the Bonneville Salt Flats where many land speed records have been broken, including by Sir Donald Campbell.
