Panoramic view of Bergen

This morning we went up the Floibanen funicular, the cable car which takes you up 320m above sea level for a panorama of the city.  When I say we, I mean me, as Andrew opted to walk up and down.

The Floibanen was opened in 1918 but of course the generation of cable cars changed several times over the years and they now have the fourth generation of vehicles.

A panorama of the city.  The camera does not actually take in the whole city which is very spread out.

Just the inner harbour area.

Looking down on the houses with their colourful roofs.  These are of course more modern and brick houses instead of the wooden houses of old.

But there are plenty of those older wooden houses around Bergen.  In many ways, it reminded me of New Zealand houses which are also wooden but they don't tend to go in for as much colour as the Norwegians seems to.  And the Swedes too.

This afternoon we fly back to Oslo for our last night in this wonderful country. Norway has been an unending delight and a revelation.  It is a beautiful land with wondrous scenery.  We will not get much time to enjoy Oslo this time but we will be reunited, albeit briefly, with Charlie.  And Jane and Ofer, who have made this trip possible by inviting us to dog sit.  We will be forever grateful.  What a great idea that was.  Two happy couples and I think Charlie enjoyed it all too.
