Here are the three cousins together. Joke's two younger children, Andries and Mirjam also came with their families but sadly, I had forgotten to take the camera and record it. We had met Alex, the eldest, separately on earlier day.
We next headed off to Nootdorp to visit Ron, his daughter Femke, her husband Henk and children Yu-Li and Guus. Ron is the son of Alie, whose parents adopted Roelof, Andrew's father, at the age of four, when he was orphaned. Alie and Roelof grew up together.
We went to a very nice restaurant in Scheveningen, the seaside resort on the outskirts of The Hague. We plan to go and visit The Hague by train next week and driving through gave a us a foretaste of this gracious city with government buildings everywhere.
The Kurhaus (health spa) in The Hague. We may not easily get to it on foot so I took a photo as we were driving by.
The photogenic windmill near Ron's house in Nootdorp.
The restaurant on the water at Scheveningen. This seaside resort is extremely popular both for visitors and for residents. The houses fetch an alarmingly high price I am told as it is a very desirable place to live.
The happy group at dinner.
The food was very nice. This is a photo of my steak tartare with tuna. It was real melt-in-the mouth.
Ron and Andrew.
Nikki and Femke.
I tried to capture the atmosphere of one of the busiest restaurant I have ever been to. Waiters and waitresses everywhere, the service unobtrusive and attentive. The food is mainly fish-based and beautifully done. I think I have noted that all food in The Netherlands is nicely done and presented. It is a country that does everything well, it seems. The people are attractive and happy looking, the streets nicely kept, the houses are handsome and the food in both shops and restaurants well presented and tasty looking.
