Let me assure any readers of this blog that much as we are enjoying wallowing in luxury and indolence in this hotel and playing bridge, we intend to explore Rhodes and post some photos of what we find. Tomorrow, there being no bridge in the afternoon, we are planning to get a bus ride into Rhodes Town where the carefully preserved Venetian architecture, marble paving and narrow alleyways give it the status of being one of the largest preserved medieval settlements in Europe. We have also made a booking with two different bridge couples to hire a car on two different days to drive around the island. A trip to the nearby small and reputedly very beautiful island of Symi is also on the agenda. An hour and a half's ferry ride is how one gets there. I am almost afraid to mention that Rick Stein has a restaurant on Symi, but I am not planning to visit it. I have still not forgiven Rick for the trouble he caused us in Albania :-)
For the moment we are enjoying being a bit lazy. Andrew has not been well for almost a week and he needs to rest before embarking on more driving, much as he loves it. I have really enjoyed being able to unpack my clothes and hang them in a cupboard instead of scrabbling through a suitcase day after day for four weeks. Not to mention packing it up again each day. Some days my suitcase was the same size as before and other days it seemed to have swelled up. But it was heavy each day. So, since Wednesday we have eaten well, played bridge not so well and generally lazed around. The last four weeks have been an amazing adventure in the Balkans but also pretty tiring. But from tomorrow on wards, the travel saga continues. Look here for coming photos.
