This spectacular church with the twin steeples was in Maribor, the first town in Slovenia. The signs to our next destination, Dravograd, which meant navigating our way through Maribor were wonderful. At first we thought that nowhere else in the world have we come across such consistently excellent signs as here. Sadly, this turned out to be not so, later on in Triglav National Park where the maps showed all the beauty spots to visit but there was no corresponding signage on the ground so it was at times very difficult to actually get to a particular spot.
This little village on the Drava River bought back memories of that other wonderful destination, Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic that we recently visited. But Slovenia promises to offer many many other spectacular vistas.
Soca Gorge in Triglav National Park is a channel approximately 750 m long and up to 15 metres deep with precipitous walls is the most imposing sculpture carved out by the Soca River along its course.
The water is icy cold and here is brave Andrew in it.
Here is a long view of the Soca Gorge.
These three photos of mountain views are all taken at Triglav National Park, Slovenia's only national park. It is most spectacular scenery which reminded us of Yosemite National Park in California.
Mighty mountains aren't they? Just so spectacular. Triglav is the highest peak in the park at 2864m.
and one more for good measure.
